Children & Adolescent Therapy

Like adults, children have unique mental health needs that need to be looked after.

At RD Psychotherapy, we have therapists who specialize in working with children, and their parents to better understand these needs. Our therapists are trained in working with neurodivergent needs, trauma, ADHD, Autism, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and others.

Family counselling is incorporated with your child’s therapy in creating a functional plan to help you move forward in a healthy way. Creating a safe space for your child to talk is an important part of their development and growth.

At RD Psychotherapy, we understand the unique and complex needs of the developing brain, and are committed to quality care for your children.

Family Therapy

We all know families can be frustrating and wonderful all at the same time. For the moments when we don’t see eye to eye, family therapy can come into effect. Family Therapy sessions help families develop positive attitudes towards life’s most complex and challenging circumstances that occur within our household (and without).

In order to help provide greater support to all family members, Family Counselling sessions with more than four (4) family members requires two (2) therapists and will be held in conjunction with the family.

Relationship & Couples Therapy

Couples counselling is a form of therapy where guidance and advice are focused on problematic issues within the relationships rather than the individual partner themselves. Couples counseling is short-term problem-oriented therapy which may include a variety of approaches to confront the areas of concern. Couples counseling is emotionally focused on improving relationship satisfaction and conflict resolution in a couple.

The goal of couples counseling is to gain insight into the relational dynamics creating the problem. Understand the roles of each partner in the dysfunctional interactions, and help change the way they perceive the relationship and each other. Effective communication skills and problem-solving techniques are provided to both partners.

Unfortunately, not all relationships can be saved, and couples therapy is necessary at times to help part ways amicably. Sometimes a significant amount of damage has occurred in the relationship where restorative treatment is no longer viable. When maladaptive relational patterns have already become embedded, the emotional bond of the couple is severely broken due to resentment from past conflict. Couples therapy can be useful in helping to settle these wounds and learning how to move on without each other.

Premarital / Cohabiting Counseling

Premarital counseling or cohabiting counseling is a form of therapy to assist couples in preparing for long, healthy, marriages or moving in together. Premarital / cohabitation counseling is designed to help the couple consider and communicate their thoughts about various topics that often arise in a cohabiting space.

Premarital counseling is suggested for all couples before their wedding day or before moving in together. This type of counseling is not just for couples who are struggling, but for those who are in a good place and need techniques to keep a relationship stable. Premarital / pre-cohabiting counseling will deal with the Four Pillars that all relationships are based on; Friendship, Trust, Communication, and Sex. The goal is to guide the couple through these Four Pillars in order to establish proper coping skills when life challenges arise.

Premarital / pre-cohabiting counseling will also cover beliefs, values, finances, family of origin/background, creating your own family, roles within the relationship, and more. This type of counseling also works for those with a previous relationship with children, and are looking to blend the families together once married/living together.

Religious pre-marital counseling is also available. Please note this in the comment section when booking your session.

Sex Therapy

Sex therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals and couples address factors impacting sexual satisfaction. The goal of sex therapy is to help people move past physical and emotional challenges to have a satisfying relationship and pleasurable sex life. Sex therapy can also help those who are currently not in a relationship deal with any sexual issues or concerns they might have by building coping skills and building blocks.

The goal is with your therapist, to work on coping mechanisms to help improve your responses in the future for a healthier sex life. With each session, your therapist will continue to push you toward better management and acceptance of your concerns that may be leading to sexual dysfunction.

If your therapist suspects a medical dysfunction is the result of a physical sexual concern, they may refer you to a medical doctor. Your therapist and the doctor can consult about your signs and symptoms and work to help find any physical concerns that may be contributing to greater sexual problems.”

Sex therapy is not treatment for sex addiction. For sex addiction please book under general psychotherapy

Dating Coach

A dating coach will help you identify patterns that are not in alignment with your relationship vision to guide you to where your prospects are more viable. A dating coach’s job is to work with your overall image in order to present the best version of you. Four main areas will be targeted in order to find your dating style and suit your dating needs.

  1. Mental Health
  2. Physical Image
  3. Personality/Character
  4. Preferences

While a dating coach cannot help anyone to fall in love with you, they can help guide you to identify love in your life.  The goal of a dating coach is to teach you to be your authentic self. To help bring your “inner game” out so you can present yourself in a competent and confident holistic fashion.

* Please note that a dating coach appointment is not psychotherapy and therefore is not covered under your insurance plan. An Initial appointment is necessary in order to gather information on yourself and what you are looking for in a partner.

Faith-Based Therapy

Faith-based therapy integrates evidence-based clinical theory into a therapeutic intervention that incorporates your spiritual beliefs. Faith-based therapy is not based on any particular religion or belief. Instead, it is how you see the world through your faith or the current struggles that might be confronting these beliefs.

Faith-based therapy, when used for individuals or couples counselling, can give you a better understanding of your current situation. It can help challenge your thinking when distorted or destructive emotions, thoughts, or behaviours begin harming who you know you should be.

Faith-based counselling is not meant to indoctrinate or changes beliefs and values. Rather, it is to help you align these beliefs and values with how you see the world, others, and yourself to improve your mental health, along with your relationships spiritually and socially. We are all a work in progress.

Naturopathic Medicine, Cupping and Acupuncture

Naturopathic doctors are trained to provide primary care services in diagnosing, preventing, and treating acute and chronic illness. Naturopathic Medicine treats patients by addressing their physical, environmental, lifestyle, attitudinal, and emotional aspects of their health. This allows ND’s to find and treat the cause of the disease using a variety of different therapies. Naturopathic Medicine uses natural remedies to help the body heal itself. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, acupuncture, cupping, exercise, and nutritional counseling. Naturopathic Medicine does not replace regular medicine. Instead it helps to enhance the individuals healthcare by adding different components that regular medicine may not offer. When combined, at times, Naturopathic Medicine and regular Medicine can work together beautifully for the benefit of the patient.
